Happy #AmeriCorpsWeek! During AmeriCorps week and beyond, we're actively working to pass S.1890/H.2777, a state bill that will make every AmeriCorps member's Segal Education Award tax-free in Massachusetts.

You Can Help Pass the Bill!

MSA is looking for House and Senate co-sponsors for An Act Excluding the Segal AmeriCorps Educational Award from Taxable Income (S.1890/H.2777). This bill would take the critical step of making the Segal Education Award exempt from Massachusetts income tax. Removing the tax on this award will strengthen our AmeriCorps programs, remove financial burdens for those who have served, and ensure access to educational advancement opportunities, as was intended by the creation of the award.

Please contact your state representative and state senator by phone or email and urge them to co-sponsor S.1890/H.2777 by Friday, March 17:

  1. Find your legislators and their contact info using Find My Legislator.
  2. Use this email template if you're an AmeriCorps Alum, or this email template if you're not.
  3. Attach this fact sheet as a resource for your legislators.

Note: Current AmeriCorps members and program staff are restricted from lobbying, but please pass this along to alumni and anyone else who feels passionate about national service!
